Atubolu, the Nigerian Goalie for Freiburg, has been out Indefinitely due to a Shoulder Injury.
SC Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu has been sidelined indefinitely with a shoulder capsule injury, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
Atubolu, 22, sustained the injury during Freiburg’s 2-1 defeat to Union Berlin on Sunday after colliding with teammate Philipp Lienhart while attempting to defend a cross.
Though he initially played on, he was substituted in the 58th minute, with veteran Florian Müller taking his place.
The setback comes during a standout season for Atubolu, who set a club record for minutes without conceding and has kept 10 clean sheets while allowing just 33 goals in the Bundesliga.
His absence is expected to be “indefinite,” with Müller stepping in as Freiburg’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Müller, 27, is an experienced Bundesliga shot-stopper, having played 126 league matches for Freiburg, VfB Stuttgart and FSV Mainz 05.
He has already made five appearances across all competitions this season.
Freiburg, who saw their seven-match unbeaten run ended by Union Berlin, will now prepare to face Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga without their first-choice keeper.
