Both never confirmed or denied the relationship, but fans did not ignore the lyrics of the songs, which seemed to refer to them.
However, in the middle of that year, Sabrina Carpenter’s name would come to light due to a possible relationship with Bassett, creating a wave of comments and speculation among Olivia’s followers.
The story continued in 2021, after Rodrigo’s “Driver’s License “ was released , whose lyrics surprised more than one, as it contained lines such as: “And you’re probably with that blonde girl / That always made me doubt.”

In response to the controversy, Sabrina tried to clarify the situation in an Instagram post (which she later deleted), in which she denied that her song was a direct response to Olivia.

Even though the two singers don’t follow each other on Instagram, a moment of reconciliation was observed at the Met Gala 2022, when they were caught talking. This brief encounter sparked speculation about a possible reconciliation, with fans hoping for a collaboration or, at the very least, a new friendship.
To further support the rumors, the two artists have collaborated with Chappell Roan and, in 2024, performed together at the famous Los Angeles arena, The Intuit Dome. Most strikingly, they both shared almost identical TikToks celebrating the event, sparking excitement on social media and fueling hope that they might have made peace. But so far, nothing has been confirmed.
