Ooni Finally break silence on Ibadan Children’s death
The crowd crush at the Islamic High School location, where kids and their parents gathered to pick up cash handouts and Christmas-related items, resulted in the stampede deaths of about 40 minors.
Silekunola and other event promoters were arrested as a result of the tragic deaths, and shocking stories about the incident surfaced on social media.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Moses Olafare, Oba Ogunwusia expressed sympathy for the Oyo State Government and the children’s party organizers over the deaths, but urged the media to exercise restraint.
“While the situation calls for solemn reflection and collective responsibility, we would want to express dismay at the unprofessional conduct of some bloggers, who have chosen to sensationalise the tragic incident rather than uphold journalistic integrity.
“As their stories greatly impact public perception and healing processes, we encourage all media practitioners to report sensitive issues with professionalism, compassion, and restraint,” the statement said in part.
