The Ogun State Police Command has arrested students of Tai Solarin University of Education for alleged involvement in kidnapping, armed robbery, and cult activities.
The students – Abdul-Azeez Ibrahim; Adekoya Boluwatife Temilade, a 200-level Political Science Department student; Adio Oluwafemi Ifeoluwapo, a 300-level Technical Education student; and Agboluaje Okikiola Segun; were all arrested by the Force and they all allegedly claimed to be members of Alora Confraternity.
A police patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Igbeba, Ijebu Ode, arrested the suspected cultists on Wednesday, February 21, at approximately 3pm, according to information shared on the Command’s verified Facebook page.
According to reports, the patrol team was called in to assist the university’s internal security officers in maintaining order ahead of today’s (Thursday) elections for the Students’ Union Government.
The police allegedly intercepted intelligence indicating that some dishonest cultists were developing plans to rig the election while collaborating with the school’s internal security.
As a result, they pursued them and had the three of them arrested.
Local mixtures thought to be criminal charms were discovered on Adio Oluwafemi, while a locally made, cut-to-size pistol loaded with a single live round was discovered on Adekoya Boluwatife.
The statement partly read, “A case of arrest of suspected cultists was reported by the Igbeba Divisional Police Officer while on crime prevention patrol on the 21st of February, 2024 at about 1500hrs.
“Ahead of Tai Solarin University of Education Student Union Election, scheduled to be held between Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd February 2024, a team of policemen drafted to provide security jointly working with the internal security of the school intercepted information that certain suspected cultist had planned to disrupt the election.
“Relying on the credible information the Divisional Police Officer, led a team of surveillance officers and arrested the following students of Tai Solarin University of Education:
“They are Adekoya Boluwatife Temilade, male, a 200-level student of the Political Science Department, Adio Oluwafemi Ifeoluwapo, male, a 300-level student of Technical Education, and Agboluaje Okikiola Segun, a non-student”
Recall that 52 suspected cultists were recently taken into custody by the command in the state’s Ifo Local Government Area.
The suspects were taken into custody, according to the police, after they obtained reliable information regarding the intended cult initiation.
