The Russian president himself oversaw the operation: on October 29, new nuclear military exercises were held.
During these maneuvers, and according to the Russian Defense Ministry, the objectives set were “fully met.” These included “ballistic and cruise missile launches” and brought together “land, sea and air forces of strategic deterrence.”
One of the maneuvers consisted of simulating “a massive nuclear strike (…) in response to an enemy nuclear strike.” And as these exercises began, the Kremlin leader assured that the use of nuclear weapons remained “an exceptional measure” for Russia…
“Given the growing geopolitical tensions and the emergence of new external threats and risks, it’s important to have modern strategic forces that are constantly ready for use,” Vladimir Putin said.
This operation comes as the Russian leader recently declared that he wanted to “review the Russian nuclear doctrine”.
