QT Marshall has been with AEW since the beginning and has been instrumental in helping establish the product worldwide due to his backstage and coaching work. However, despite this, he remains unpopular with a segment of fans, and it isn’t just because he is a heel. And now, in an interview with Sean Ross Sapp, which was recorded before Marshall’s Full Gear match with Andrew “A.J.” Befumo, the AEW original disclosed why he feels fans have a negative view towards him.
“I think being a good person behind the scenes, and in my life, it’s fun to take that out on the live audience and get those frustrations out. They have a lot of frustrations with a lot of the talent, so let them put it on me … It started, obviously, with just being there because of being Cody’s assistant and then kind of falling into the TV stuff. But I think a lot of it was never pushing back and fighting against the rumors and innuendo of why I had the spots that I had. ‘If that’s what you want to believe, I’m all for it.”

39-year-old Marshall broke into the wrestling business via the Monster Factory in 2004 and worked the independent circuit for several years before having spells with both ROH and WWE. Still, his big break wouldn’t truly come until 2019, when he joined AEW as a wrestler and associate producer on the recommendation of Cody Rhodes. Yet while he has never been pushed as a star, he has worked with established stars like Paul Wight and CM Punk, as well as helped to get over AEW’s home-grown talents, such as Swerve Strickland, Darby Allin, and Hook.
