Rihanna watching League Two football?! Rapper A$AP Rocky set for shock Tranmere takeover – with ‘Welcome to Wrexham’-style documentary ‘in the pipeline’

Hollywood superstars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney caused quite a stir when buying into Wrexham back in 2021, with their behind-the-scenes docuseries winning a number of awards and a legion of new supporters around the world.

  Tranmere may be next for the high-profile takeover treatment, with The Sun reporting on how rap star A$AP Rocky – who has two sons with R&B icon Rihanna – forms part of an investment group headed up by celebrity lawyer Joe Tacopina that is exploring the option of acquiring an 80% stake in Rovers.

  The deal is reportedly worth around £15 million ($20m) and includes plans for a ‘Welcome to Wrexham’-style documentary that would help to raise the club’s profile across the globe – with Rihanna potentially in line to attend matches at Prenton Park.

  WHAT A SOURCE SAID

  A source has told The Sun’s Bizarre column: “Rocky is tight with Joe and has committed to the Tranmere bid. Joe has been to Tranmere matches and Rocky has plans to go over too after the deal is completed. We may even see Rihanna watching League Two football.”

  They added: “Joe thinks Tranmere – a famous club, near to Liverpool – is undervalued and that by clever marketing and celebrity endorsement he can transform it. With the likes of Rocky on board, maybe so.”

  Reynolds and McElhenney have used famous friends to help boost Wrexham’s profile – with their partners Blake Lively and Kaitlin Olson attending games, along with the likes of Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell. The Red Dragons are now up into League One, while Tranmere are currently sat 16th in the fourth-tier standings.
