A crestfallen Rio Ferdinand has revealed his three-year son Cree asked to stop supporting Manchester United following their 4-3 loss to Chelsea.
A Cole Palmer hat-trick helped the Blues secure a dramatic victory at Stamford Bridge, with the England international firing in two goals in the 100th and 101st minute respectively. Less than 12 hours after the result, former Manchester United centre-back Ferdinand, who was doing punditry at the game for TNT Sports, tweeted that Cree wanted to support another team following the loss.
The ex-Leeds United and West Ham defender took to X to post a photo of him with his son in his own personal gym, and tweeted: “Just telling Cree he can’t change the team he supports after last night (Thursday).”
Former Chelsea player Joe Cole was also on punditry duty for TNT Sports and when Palmer scored his winner at the death, the ex-England man was naturally jubilant, Ferdinand was initially nowhere to be seen before the camera panned over to him looking somewhat pained. The result means sixth-placed United are very unlikely to qualify for next season’s Champions League, heaping more pressure on manager Erik ten Hag.

Ferdinand may have to have more reassuring chats with his son Cree when United host Premier League title hopefuls and bitter rivals Liverpool on Sunday at Old Trafford. The Reds will be heavy favourites to win that contest so another defeat could be on the cards.
