Supreme Court Judge Burneo will assume the presidency of the highest electoral body and will be in charge of organizing the general elections of April 2026, as well as the elections for the election of the new municipal and regional authorities.
Roberto Burneo biography
Roberto Burneo Bermejo has been the Supreme Court judge of the Judiciary since 2022. He is 47 years old. He is currently a counselor of the National Academy of the Judiciary. He has also been president of the Second and Fifth Transitional Constitutional and Social Law Chambers of the Supreme Court of Peru.
He studied Law at the University of Piura and holds a Master’s degree in Business Law from the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC). He also completed doctoral studies in Ibero-American Administrative Law at the University of La Coruña.
He has held legal positions of leadership, coordination and consultancy in institutions such as the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights ; the National Superintendence of Labor Inspection (SUNAFIL); the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) and the Civil Defense Institute (INDECI).

At the same session, Supreme Court Judge Silvia Rueda Fernández was elected as first alternate member , and Ramiro Bustamante Zegarra as second alternate.
After expressing his gratitude to his colleagues for the election, he said: “ I reaffirm before you my commitment to serve our citizens, democracy and the rule of law, so that the popular will is respected in the upcoming elections and all electoral processes, guaranteeing a transparent, efficient and modern electoral system ,” he stressed.
