A judge at the Barrientos Penitentiary found influencer Rodolfo ‘Fofo’ Márquez guilty of the crime of attempted femicide against Edith N. , a 52-year-old woman whom he physically assaulted during a traffic incident in February 2024.
The judge’s decision marked the end of a lengthy legal process that attracted public attention due to the defendant’s fame and controversy.
The incident occurred on February 22, 2024 in the parking lot of a shopping center in Naucalpan, State of Mexico, when Edith N. was driving her vehicle when ‘Fofo’ hit her in a fit of rage .
The attack was captured on video and went viral on social media, sparking outrage and calls for justice for the victim.
Following his arrest, Mexican authorities charged him with attempted femicide . During the hearings, the Public Prosecutor’s Office presented compelling evidence detailing the physical and psychological consequences suffered by Edith.
Gender violence specialists said the attack had characteristics of femicide violence , due to the age difference and the physical superiority of the aggressor.
The sentence
Although the judge found ‘Fofo’ Márquez guilty, the length of his sentence has not yet been determined.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 29 at 4:00 p.m. in the State of Mexico.
Following the ruling, ‘Fofo’s’ family issued public statements reiterating their position that the case was “fabricated” and urged the influencer’s followers to demonstrate in his support.
However, the call for action received little response. Feminist organisations and human rights defenders have welcomed the court decision as an important step in combating impunity in cases of gender violence.
Who is ‘Fofo’ Marquez?
Rodolfo ‘Fofo’ Márquez, known as ‘El Niño Millonario’ , gained notoriety on social media for his luxurious lifestyle and constant controversies.
Before his arrest, he posted ostentatious content in which he boasted about his fortune, linked to the inheritance of his father, a gas station businessman.
During his time in prison, his younger brother, Rodrigo, has managed his social media accounts.
