Germany has issued an unprecedented warning to Western nations regarding the scale of Russia’s current weapons production.
Boris Pistorius, the country’s defense minister, revealed that it takes Russia only three months to produce the same amount of weaponry the European Union manufactures in an entire year.
The minister explained that Russia has transitioned into a “war economy” as the conflict approaches its third year.
Boris Pistorius, a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), made these remarks at an event hosted by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Arnsberg, western Germany.
In his speech, Boris Pistorius urged Berlin to allocate more funding to its military to effectively compete with Russia.
Last week, the minister announced that Germany would propose a new defense strategy by the end of the year.
He said: “For too long, … the state has seen itself more as a regulator than as a partner to the defence industry. The task is to further strengthen our country’s defence industrial base in these times. Not only to maintain it, but to strengthen it. We therefore want to specifically improve the framework conditions for an efficient security and defence industry.”
