Since the end of the Cold War in 1989, the number of nuclear warheads of the world’s major powers has declined. The race for enriched uranium has slowed down and it has only been used twice, in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
By 2024, Russia’s arsenal will have 5,580 nuclear warheads, of which 4,380 will be operational. The warheads can be launched from bomber aircraft or from land-based launchers, which can be fixed or mobile.
1,710 warheads are deployed. 2,670 warheads are in reserve and 1,200 warheads are decommissioned and awaiting dismantling.
