It’s been announced that Sweden will mobilize up to 3 warships and an aircraft to monitor sensitive infrastructures in the Baltic Sea.
The warships will also monitor Russia’s “phantom fleet”, which Moscow is allegedly using to export its oil despite Western sanctions. In recent months, several electrical communication cables have been damaged in the Baltic Sea, and Westerners suspect that Russian ships are involved.
In addition, the leaders of Nato member countries bordering the Baltic Sea will meet on Tuesday in Helsinki (capital of Finland) to discuss security in the region, reports 20 Minutes.
According to Finnish President Alexander Stubb, “strengthening NATO’s presence in the Baltic Sea and responding to the threat posed by Russia’s phantom fleet” will be at the heart of the discussions.
