There looks set to be more Saudi spending in the summer, with Barcelona star Raphinha and Tottenham ace Richarlison targeted by Pro League clubs.
Clubs from the Middle East dominated transfer window proceedings a year ago and multiple outlets claim that the window this summer will be no different.
Raphinha has long been linked with a move away from Barcelona, often touted as a way to alleviate their continued financial burdens. Sport reports that Saudi clubs are back in the mix for the Brazilian, as they represent the few who could afford his €5.5 million (£4.7m/$6.0m) wages per season. The report lists the Public Investment Fund-owned quartet of Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli as potential suitors.
Raphina may not be the only Brazilian heading to Saudi Arabia. The Telegraph notes that Tottenham striker Richarlison is a prime target for clubs in the Pro League, who was already on their radar during the January window before no bids materialised. That won’t be the case in the summer, though, with the report stating that spending in the Gulf state will be increased dramatically. Al-Ittihad are reportedly frontrunners in the race for Richarlison, although there is no suggestion as yet that Spurs would be willing to let their £60m ($76m) striker go.
Saudi’s summer spending won’t just be limited to Raphinha and Richarlison. Increased places for foreign players will see new approaches for veteran Premier League talent. Liverpool hero Mohamed Salah and Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne have already been reported as two marquee names that they want to get over the line, matching the signings of Neymar and Karim Benzema a year ago.
Sport notes that while interest is there for Raphinha, the Brazilian has constantly reaffirmed his desire to stay in Catalonia and play Champions League football. He got an assist in Europe last time out in Barca’s last-16 win over Napoli. Richarlison, meanwhile, is still recovering from a knee injury that has kept him out of action since mid-February.
