Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, is an activist for the Yoruba Nation who has urged President Bola Tinubu to step in and stop Vice President Kashim Shettima from criticizing British Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch any more.
In response to Shettima’s comments about Badenoch’s recent critical remarks on corruption in Nigeria, Igboho made the appeal in a statement that was obtained in Osogbo on Sunday.
By speaking out against the corruption that still hinders Nigeria’s progress, Badenoch, who identifies as Yoruba, had disassociated herself from being associated with northern Nigeria.
Her remarks drew criticism from Vice President Shettima, which Igboho condemned.
Igboho defended Badenoch in a statement he personally signed, urging President Tinubu to warn Shettima and tell him to concentrate on his duties as vice president instead of arguing verbally.
He said that by expressing her candid opinions about Nigeria’s systemic corruption, which he feels has impeded the country’s development, Badenoch had done nothing wrong.
“It is incumbent on President Bola Tinubu, who is also of Yoruba descent, to instruct Shettima to focus on his responsibilities as Vice President rather than waste energy engaging in verbal skirmishes with Badenoch, who merely shared her candid but truthful perspective on the systemic corruption in Nigeria,” Igboho said.
He added that any criticism of the Fulani ethnic group was met with harsh repercussions under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, frequently through the use of state apparatus.
Igboho brought up his personal experience of being persecuted for speaking out against issues like the destruction of farmlands and the violence committed by Fulani herdsmen. In July 2021, a raid on his home resulted in arrests and fatalities.
Igboho also attacked the current government for failing to alleviate the pervasive misery of Nigerians, who are facing poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship. He expressed concern that instead of focusing on these pressing issues, Vice President Shettima was preoccupied with attacking Badenoch.
“When did it become a crime for someone to express their opinion about how corruption has stalled Nigeria’s growth or to assert their Yoruba identity? The Vice President should focus on his duties and stop wasting time on unnecessary verbal assaults against Kemi Badenoch,” Igboho added.

Meanwhile, GuruTrends earlier reported that Osun State police paraded three suspected Yoruba nation agitators following their arrest for allegedly advocating a secession agenda.
Following a comprehensive investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department, the suspects were charged in a Federal High Court.
