Support Ukraine as long as necessary by sanctioning Russia – EU
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has thanked the European Union for the agreement to extend the sanctions regime against Russia by six months.
The Ukrainian leader told the President of the European Council, António Costa, at a meeting held on the sidelines of events in Poland to mark the eightieth anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp.
Mr. Costa stressed on social networks that the pact concluded on Monday by the EU-27, once Hungary’s doubts had been allayed, was a good example of the Union’s commitment to Ukraine, a country the EU is ready to support “for as long as necessary”.
According to the Ukrainian Presidency, Mr. Zelenski and Mr. Costa discussed what would already be the 16th package of sanctions against Russia, as well as other more direct collaboration issues such as European military aid to Ukraine.
Mr. Zelenski sees the development of local industry, for example to speed up the manufacture of drones and long-range weapons, as a priority.
