The Swedish Prime Minister announced that his country is “neither at war nor at peace” as he revealed plans to deploy troops to the Baltic Sea to enhance surveillance in the region.
As part of a NATO initiative, three Scandinavian warships will be dispatched to monitor vulnerable infrastructure and the movements of Vladimir Putin’s covert fleet.
During a party conference in Stockholm, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said: “Sweden is not at war. But there is no peace either. True peace requires freedom and the absence of serious conflicts between countries. But we and our neighbours are exposed to hybrid attacks, carried out not with robots and soldiers, but with computers, money, disinformation and the risk of sabotage.”
“This is the first time that Sweden has contributed armed forces in our own immediate area,” he added.
Regarding the sabotage of a sea cable linking Finland and Estonia, the leader indicated that NATO was ready to provide assistance.
