WHAT HAPPENED?

Tuchel, alongside Pep Guardiola, are the two most high-profile names being considered for the vacant England head coach position. Reports emerged this week suggesting the former Chelsea and Bayern boss is in talks over the position and Three Lions captain Kane has had his say on the potential appointment having worked with the German in Munich last year.

    WHAT KANE SAID

Speaking to Sky Sports Germany, Kane said: “Until it’s announced obviously I can’t really comment, but we have to wait and see. Obviously, I know Thomas well from last year. Fantastic coach, fantastic person, so I am sure the guys at the FA will contact me, when they know more about it.”

    • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Appointing Tuchel would mark a shift back to previous strategies made by the FA that included appointing foreign coaches. After spending so long with Gareth Southgate at the helm, to give the job to someone who isn’t English would likely ruffle a few feathers.

      WHAT NEXT FOR ENGLAND?

For now, Lee Carsley remains in charge on an interim basis. Following the recent Nations League matches against Finland and Greece, England will return to action in November for another battle against an impressive Greek side, as well as the Republic of Ireland.
