Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he expects “concrete initiatives” from US President-elect Donald Trump in order to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
“We will be waiting for concrete initiatives,” Lavrov said at a press conference during which he reviewed the milestones of Russian diplomacy in 2024 and addressed this year’s challenges. He recalled that “President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly assured us that he’s ready to meet, but so far we haven’t received a proposal”.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed his willingness to give Ukraine “security guarantees” in order to reach an agreement, although he insisted that Russia must also be able to eliminate the “threats” allegedly affecting its security.
“Threats to our western borders must be eliminated,” Lavrov demanded, in a veiled reference to the militarization of Eastern European countries and the presence of NATO, an organization Kiev aspires to join.
