Journalist Bob Woodward has published the book “War,” which traces the history of three conflicts: the Middle East, Ukraine and Russia, as well as the struggle for the presidency of the United States.

In it, he reveals some of the conversations that current US President Joe Biden has had over the years with Vladimir Putin, Benjamin Netanyahu and Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as Donald Trump.

In War, Bob Woodward quotes Dan Coats, Mr. Trump’s former director of national intelligence, who said that the relationship between Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin had long puzzled him himself.

“He reaches out to him and never says anything bad about Putin. To me, that’s scary,” Mr. Coats told Mr. Woodward.

On the Trump team side, campaign spokesman Steven Cheung responded by launching a long personal attack on the journalist.

“None of these stories invented by Bob Woodward are true and are the work of a truly demented and disturbed man who suffers from a debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

Mr Cheung added: “Woodward is a complete scumbag who has lost his mind, he is slow, lethargic, incompetent and generally a boring person with no personality.”

Yet it is notable that Donald Trump has agreed to numerous interviews with Mr. Woodward, who has been considered the principal chronicler of presidents in Washington since 1989 and whose revelations have only very rarely been questioned.
