The Department of Homeland Security ( DHS ), in conjunction with the United States Department of Labor (DOL), announced that it will issue more than 65,000 H-2B (work) visas to Latin Americans, including Hondurans.

The goal of issuing 64,716 additional H-2B visas for fiscal year 2025 is to meet the labor needs of U.S. companies in sectors such as hospitality, tourism, landscaping and seafood processing.

This new allocation is in addition to the 66,000 visas mandated annually by Congress and represents the maximum allowed under the temporary legislative authority granted in recent years.

H-2B visas allow U.S. companies to hire foreign workers to fill temporary non-agricultural jobs where there are not enough U.S. workers available.

To ensure equitable distribution, visas will be allocated in two periods during 2025, taking into account seasonal needs, with a portion reserved for the peak summer season.

The H-2B program requires employers to certify to the DOL that there are not enough U.S. workers willing or qualified to perform the work, and that hiring foreign nationals will not adversely affect local working conditions.

In addition, both DHS and DOL maintain strict measures to prevent exploitation and ensure compliance with labor standards.
