The US and Mexico Detained 486343 Migrants in 2024 Including Hondurans

In 2024, immigration authorities in the United States and Mexico recorded a total of 486,343 apprehensions of migrants from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala , countries that make up the so-called Northern Triangle of Central America, according to data consulted this Saturday by EFE.
This figure represents a 38% drop in 2024 records compared to 786,690 arrests in 2023, a drop of 300,347 cases, according to figures compiled by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
In the first 12 months of last year, 288,337 arrests were reported on the southwestern border of the United States, a drop of 273,892 records, equivalent to 48.7%.
In Mexican territory, apprehensions of this group of Central Americans rose from 224,461 in 2023 to 198,006 in 2024, for a decrease of 26,455 records, 11.78% less.
The data collected by IOM comes from the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Immigration Policy, Registration and Identity Unit of Mexico.
Every year, more than 500,000 people from these three countries attempt to emigrate illegally to the United States in search of better living conditions, including thousands of minors.
Hondurans deported
In the first 50 days of 2025, a total of 6,318 Honduran migrants were returned from the United States, Mexico and Guatemala, according to the National Commissioner for Human Rights in Honduras (Conadeh).
According to the institution’s statement, the majority of those returned, 3,307, come from Guatemala, while 2,053 arrived from the United States and 930 from Mexico.
Those deported from the United States, following the end of Joe Biden’s administration and the beginning of Donald Trump’s government on January 20, were transported on civilian and military flights.
