Trump closes border with Mexico with armor
The US government is preparing to send thousands more troops to the US-Mexico border. According to The Washington Post, armored vehicles could also be sent there.
According to an unnamed US official, the US military intends to send a thousand troops to the border with Mexico.
The official didn’t specify when the deployment would take place, but said they would join the thousands of National Guard troops already present at the border, following US President Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency.
Preparing for a potential influx, Mexico has begun building giant tents in the city of Ciudad Juarez, as part of the government’s plan to set up centers in nine cities in the north of the country.
However, local official Enrique Licón described the plans as “unprecedented”, as the shelters should be ready to accommodate thousands of people within a matter of days.
