Trump gives a serious kick up Europe’s backside
For French Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu, European capitals took a “serious kick in the butt” during Donald Trump’s inauguration speech.
“Perhaps the brutality of the (US) president’s words can finally lead to a shock and an awakening” in Europe, Lecornu said on Tuesday, speaking to France Inter. “For many decades there has been the temptation to put ourselves under the American nuclear umbrella,” he added.
In addition, the French minister called on all European capitals to invest in their own defense industry, describing “wanting to buy more weapons from the United States” as a “historical contradiction”.
