Trump has what it takes to bend Putin – Nicolas Tenzer
On Friday January 24, French political scientist Nicolas Tenzer spoke on LCI. In particular, he discussed Vladimir Putin’s recent statements on possible talks with his American counterpart Donald Trump.
Last week, the Russian president told Donald Trump that he was “ready” to discuss the Ukrainian question. It is against this backdrop that Nicolas Tenzer, author of the “Tenzer Stratégies” blog and a lecturer at Sciences Po, argues that the United States can make Russia bend. “Trump can bend Putin. Factually, American power has nothing to do either militarily, economically or technologically with fake Russian power,” said the specialist.
He added: “It’s also in his interest. If, as he has always made clear, he wants to counter China, Iran and North Korea, he can’t be weak vis-à-vis Putin’s Russia”.
It’s not certain that the American president can put an end to the war in Ukraine. “Trump has absolutely no notion or interest in international law,” explains Nicolas Tenzer. As TF1info, if he advocates a short-term deal, without any security guarantees for Kiev, then “that means Putin will rearm in the next three or four years, and then he’ll go on, he’ll reattack Ukraine, he’ll attack Europe”, warns the political scientist.
