Increase in violence in Honduras
According to data provided by the National Observatory of Violence of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (ONV-UNAH), at least seven multiple homicides, also known as massacres, have been recorded so far in 2025, leaving 25 fatalities.
Migdonia Ayestas, director of ONV-UNAH, warned about the significant increase in these incidents compared to the same period last year.
In an interview with national media, Ayestas pointed out that in the first two months of 2025 the number of victims of massacres that occurred in the same period of 2024 has already been exceeded.
“This is serious, precisely because, if we compare it with the two months of January and February of last year, in that period there were five crime scenes with 12 victims,” said the director, who also added that this year there have already been 13 more victims than the previous year in the same period.
