Ukraine strikes deep into Russia, Putin promises brutal revenge
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, which speaks of a “massive” attack, three drones could be shot down and three more were intercepted by air defense systems. But a number of drones did strike. Those caused mostly property damage in skyscrapers. But for the first time, civilian homes were also reportedly hit. The attack caused a great deal of chaos in the Russian metropolis on Saturday. Local residents were evacuated, all major public events were canceled and Kazan International Airport was temporarily closed. No one was reportedly injured in the attack by Ukrainian drones.
Russian president Vladimir Putin reacted furiously. “Equal whoever tries to destroy something in our country, of whatever magnitude, will be able to count on even greater destruction in his own country and will regret what he tried to do in our country.”
On the front lines, meanwhile, the Russian army continues to advance. On Sunday, it claimed the capture of two new villages in eastern Ukraine (Lozova in Kharkiv and Sontsivka in Donetsk).
