Ukrainians seize secret notes of North Korean soldier killed in action
Thanks to his logbook, the Ukrainian armed forces have discovered how Private Jong experienced his deployment in Russia, and how he was supposed to protect himself from enemy artillery fire. These notes suggest that North Korean soldiers are sorely lacking in training and are being sent “as cannon fodder” to the battlefield. According to Kiev, 12,000 North Koreans, including “around 500 officers and three generals”, have been deployed in the Kursk region.
The logbook is written in ballpoint pen. Several pages have been translated by Ukrainians, and drawings have also been found. According to the information gathered, soldier Jong thought he was defending his country, North Korea, by fighting alongside the Russians in the Kursk region. He carried false Russian identity papers to pass himself off as a Tuvan, a Siberian people, reports L’Indépendant.
In his logbook, Jong confides that he was deployed as punishment. He repents his mistakes. He writes several paragraphs in praise of his homeland and pledges loyalty to its leader, Kim Jong-Un. “Defending the homeland is a sacred duty of every citizen and the highest mission,” he wrote. The soldier explains that he is ready to “sacrifice my life” for him. “I will show the world the courage and self-sacrifice of the Red Special Forces named after Kim Jong Un. And I will win this battle, return home and testify before the motherland.”
Further on, small drawings illustrate the correct way to evade drone attacks. According to Jong’s text: “When a drone is detected, form a team of three. The person attracting the drone should get no closer than 7 meters, while those firing should keep a distance of 10 to 12 meters.”
