He has no intention of stepping aside with England, as captain of his country, and told those alongside him in the Wembley dressing room after being presented with special gifts to mark his 100th appearance: “I just want to say, extremely proud night for me. I’ve known a lot of you a long time. Some of you, brand new staff, some of the new players, and if you are playing for England, it’s the greatest joy you can have in football – representing your country. Whether it’s in games like tonight or major tournaments, that feeling never gets old. So to be able to do it 100 times is something I’m really proud of.
“I’m really conscious that sometimes when you get this stuff, people think you’re coming to the end. I’m excited for what’s to come with this group. I feel like we can all help each other. The younger players coming through, pushing the more experienced ones to get even better with the energy. And then the boys that have been here for a longer time just helping the new lads settle in.”
WHAT NEXT?
Kane is now heading back to domestic football at Bayern, with there a desire on his part to bring a much-publicised wait for major honours to a close in 2024-25. He has already been among the goals for club and country this season, with his remarkable strike rate showing no sign of slowing down.
