A hitman stormed a soccer field this weekend in the province of Orellana, in the Amazon region of Ecuador , and after firing several shots he fled the scene, without achieving his goal, according to witnesses.
Mariuxi Sánchez, a member of the assembly for the Amazonian province of Orellana, posted a video on her social media account on Sunday, showing two people wearing helmets arriving on a motorcycle to the stadium.
One of the motorcyclists, carrying a gun, gets out of the vehicle and chases a person, who runs across the field, while the players and the public (including several children) flee the scene. At the end of the video, the subject with the gun can be seen returning to the motorcycle, leaving the scene and fleeing, firing shots.
The incident was recorded because the football match was being broadcast live, and at the end of the piece, the announcer comments that the hitmen did not achieve their objective.
“We are no longer safe anywhere. Today, in the middle of an inter-neighborhood soccer championship, players and their families were surprised by an attempted hitman in the Guadalupe Larriva neighborhood,” wrote Sánchez, who ended the message by asking the head of state, Daniel Noboa, and the Minister of the Interior, Mónica Palencia, about the Fenix security plan.
Police have not released any official information on the incident.
