In an interview with BBC Hausa, Ibrahim Abdullahi, the PDP’s deputy national publicity secretary, revealed that Jonathan was not given the party’s presidential ticket.
“It is untrue to say that the PDP has offered former President Goodluck Jonathan its presidential ticket or invited him to run in the 2027 election,” he stated.
In the event that I had an interview with a journalist, we talked about a number of topics. However, during the interview, he brought up President Jonathan and inquired about our thoughts on him, as there have been rumors that he is being pressured to run for president.
In response, I stated that Jonathan is qualified to run for office because he is a Nigerian and is entitled to do so under the law, given that he still has one term remaining. Given that he is legally eligible to run for president, there is nothing wrong with him doing so.
Abdullahi went on to say that the PDP had done enough for Jonathan and that they would never court him as a party member.
They have twelve governors and numerous other well-known politicians who are qualified and eligible to run for president, he explained, adding that they have not yet discussed the matter with Jonathan.
He went on to say that not long ago, his wife had declared that nothing would force her husband to run for president and that he did not leave anything in the Villa that would lead people to believe he would return to run for office. How then can we consider him. Ticket is given to someone who has shown interest.”
