On Monday morning, December 9, 2024, Pennsylvania police apprehended Luigi Mangione in Altoona because he is the primary suspect in the killing of Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, on December 4 in Manhattan while leaving the Hilton Hotel.
According to sources, the 26-year-old, who could be the gunman wanted by police, was caught when a fast food employee filed a complaint and was discovered with bogus IDs and firearms similar to those used in the crime.
Mangione appeared in a Pennsylvania court to be arraigned on five initial charges and was denied bail, but hours later he was charged with additional charges, including several firearms possession charges.

Authorities have only stated that the suspect was born and reared in Maryland, has ties to San Francisco, and his latest recorded address is in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Gilman School, a private boys’ school in Baltimore, Maryland, reported that he attended there. Mangione was named the most academically successful student.
“This is profoundly troubling news that exacerbates an already terrible situation. “Our hearts go out to everyone affected,” the school said in an email.
He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science and formed a video game production group.
According to his LinkedIn profile , Mangione worked as a data engineer at a company called TrueCar. In that regard, the company mentioned: ” While we do not generally comment on personnel matters, we can confirm that Luigi Mangione has not been an employee of our company since 2023 ,” a spokesperson said.
His social media profile also links him to internships at the Johns Hopkins Computational Robotics Laboratory and Firaxis Games. At the time of his arrest, he had no known criminal record or violent behavior.
