Daneidy Barrera Rojas, better known as Epa Colombia , was recently captured by agents of the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) in one of her hair salons in Bogotá.
The arrest occurred on the night of January 27, 2025, after the Supreme Court of Justice ratified his sentence of 5 years and 2 months in prison. This ruling is linked to the acts of vandalism committed in 2019, when he destroyed part of a station of the TransMilenio public transport system during social protests.
Before being arrested, the influencer shared a video on her social media where she expressed sadness and concern about the outcome of her legal case. In her statements, she said that she always sought to repair the damage caused, but regretted that her efforts were not enough to avoid imprisonment.
What led to Epa Colombia’s conviction?
To understand this result, we need to go back to November 2019, a period marked by intense social protests in Colombia. During these protests, Epa Colombia carried out an act that caused great controversy: she destroyed part of a TransMilenio station with a hammer, recorded the event and posted it on her social media.
The video sparked outrage in public opinion and became a key piece of evidence against him. Following this act, the Prosecutor’s Office charged him with charges that ultimately resulted in a prison sentence, as they were classified as vandalism during a social protest.
Charges against Epa Colombia
The crimes for which Epa Colombia has been convicted include:
- Disruption in public transport service : Due to damage caused to essential infrastructure for mobility in Bogotá.
- Incitement to commit a crime for terrorist purposes: By inciting others to carry out similar acts during a period of protests.
- Damage to property : Due to the material damage caused, which resulted in significant repair costs.
The Court found that his actions could not be justified under the right to freedom of expression, since they constituted an apology for crime.
Furthermore, the severity of the social impact and public dissemination of the video aggravated his legal situation, leading to the revocation of benefits he had previously received, such as parole.
Epa Colombia will have to serve her sentence in a penitentiary center determined by the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC) and will not be able to use her social networks during this time.
