The meaning of the word woke is ‘I woke up’ and in recent decades it has been associated with different movements against social injustice, but today many fear its impact.
One of the most famous cases is that of billionaire Elon Musk , who in an interview claimed that his transgender daughter was killed by the woke virus: ” I was tricked into signing paperwork for one of my older children .”
This word was originally used in black communities in the United States to describe people who have woken up to progressive issues and are alert to injustices.
In 2017, the Oxford dictionary added this definition: “ You are aware of social and political issues, especially racism .” However, the dictionary itself makes the distinction below the definition.
” This word is often used disapprovingly by people who think other people get upset too easily by these issues, or talk too much about them in a way that doesn’t change anything ,” it reads.
Critics of woke culture particularly question the coercive methods some people use against those who say things or commit acts they perceive as misogynistic, homophobic and racist.
Businessman asks to stop using woke language
Through his social networks, businessman Ricardo Salinas sent a message to his collaborators and producers at TV Azteca, asking them to stop using woke language in news programs.
” To my on-screen collaborators, I want to say that being ‘different’ in a world full of nonsense… is bravery, don’t fall into trying to fit in and be normal. Let’s give our viewers the option to see something different, please help me help!!! ” she wrote.
The letter also said: ” The viewers, through the owner of TV Azteca/Azteco, request that the news producers give instructions to their on-screen presenters… that they immediately stop using woke language .”
