William Joffre Alcívar Bautista, known in the criminal world as Commander Willy, has been identified as one of the most feared leaders of the Ecuadorian criminal organization Los Tiguerones.
This gang, which operates mainly in the provinces of Guayas and Esmeraldas , has been involved in numerous criminal activities, including drug trafficking, extortion and terrorism.
The Tiguerones emerged in 2017 as an armed wing of Los Choneros, and under Alcívar ‘s command they have expanded their influence and operations into drug and arms trafficking, making them one of the most powerful criminal groups in Ecuador.
Alcívar ‘s career as a prison officer has provided him with valuable connections within the prison system, which has facilitated his criminal activities. He is credited with organizing his brother’s escape, an act that led him to establish links with Mexican cartels, thus increasing his notoriety in organized crime.
The extreme violence that characterizes Los Tiguerones was evident in an armed attack on the TC Televisión channel in January 2024, an event that marked a chilling step in their modus operandi.
The arrest of Commander Willy in Spain
On October 23, 2024, Commander Willy was captured in Spain in a joint operation between the Ecuadorian National Police and the Spanish Civil Guard .
His arrest was the result of an intense international collaboration in the fight against organised crime. At the time of his arrest, Alcívar was with his brother Álex Iván Alcívar , alias Ronco.
Authorities found various valuables and false documents, suggesting that the two have been operating an elaborate scheme to evade justice.
Furthermore, the charges against the brothers are serious and include multiple crimes, including murder and organized crime, which has led to the issuance of international arrest warrants.
The capture of Commander Willy represents an important step forward in the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime in Ecuador. The Ecuadorian authorities have already begun the process of extraditing the brothers, in the hope that justice will be done for the numerous atrocities they have committed.
