Will WhatsApp allow music in statuses? This would be the new feature
WhatsApp has been inspired by social networks such as Facebook and Instagram, also owned by Meta, to incorporate certain similar functions and tools.
In the style of Instagram stories, the messaging social network WhatsApp is reportedly considering integrating the possibility of adding music to statuses.
This would allow users to add a song when uploading an update, such as a birthday update, to make it more interactive.
According to WaBetaInfo, some WhatsApp beta users with iPhone and Android devices have had early access to this new feature.
The tool would be presented as a musical note icon , located at the top of the status creation interface. In the case of Android, an example of what the status would look like with the song already added was shared.
The presentation would be similar to that of Instagram : below the user’s name the title of the song would appear, and when clicking on it a window would appear at the bottom with more information, including the option to ‘View artist’.
Possible duration of WhatsApp statuses
This way, by adding music to a photo, it will become a video that will last 15 seconds.
However, if a video is shared in a status update , the music – which can be searched by song or artist – will be adjusted to the length of the video.
It is important to mention that the deployment of this button is the result of an agreement between Meta, the developer of WhatsApp, and Universal Music Group (UMG) to bring the record label’s music archive to its platforms, as announced in August 2024.
