A 44-year-old Greek woman has been sentenced to three years in prison and fined 1,000 euros ($1,106) after being arrested for intentionally and repeatedly setting fires on farmland.
The accused reportedly set the fires in order to flirt with the firefighters who were responding to the blaze.
The fires occurred on 24 and 25 August in the municipality of Tripoli, in the Peloponnese, affecting small plots of land. Fortunately, firefighters managed to quickly control the flames, preventing further damage.
The woman’s presence in both incidents raised suspicions among emergency services, who later discovered her intentions.
Local media reported that the accused confessed to setting the fires because she “enjoyed watching the firefighters and flirting with them.”
This unusual case has caused shock in the region, and the authorities have taken firm measures by imposing a sentence that seeks to deter future dangerous behavior.
