Woman sets her stepchildren’s hands on fire for eating rice she prepared for their father
The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested Rachel Geoffrey, 23, a stepmother, for setting her two stepchildren’s hands on fire.
The suspect, who lives in the Federal Housing Estate in the Girei Local Government Area, was taken into custody after setting her stepchildren, Genesis Geoffrey, 7, and Idadai, 3, on fire.
On May 7, Geoffrey willfully caused serious physical harm to the three- and seven-year-old children, according to command spokeswoman SP Suleiman Nguroje, who verified the event.
After their mother and father split up, he claimed the victims were subjected to multiple planned acts of cruelty and violations of their human rights by their stepmother.
According to him, Genesis and Ijadai got their stepmother angry after eating the plate of rice she had cooked and kept for her husband, because they were hungry.
Reacting, she tied their hands with handkerchiefs and set fire to their hands, resulting in the severe injuries they sustained.
The Commissioner of Police CP Dankombo Morris, expressed worries as he advised members of the public particularly parents to live up to expectations by providing the basic needs of their wards. He also vowed to diligently make sure that the suspect is persecuted.
