The Secretariat for National Risk and Contingency Management (Copeco) declared a yellow alert for the departments of Atlántida and Cortés, which have suffered severe damage from the rains associated with a high pressure wedge.
The alert will be in effect for 48 hours and began at 9:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21.
Authorities urge municipal emergency committees (Codem ) and local emergency committees ( Codeles ) to remain vigilant in the face of any threat that may harm residents.
They also recommend that people living on the banks of rivers and ravines, as well as in areas vulnerable to landslides, collapses, mudslides, subsidence, flooding and other types of threats, take preventive measures.
On Monday, the Fire Department reported that it evacuated eight people from the El Toronjal residential area in La Ceiba, Atlántida , where damage from rain has been reported.
According to the National Center for Atmospheric, Oceanographic and Seismic Studies (Cenaos), Honduras is under the influence of a high pressure wedge that produces northeast winds and generates weak rainfall, with isolated electrical activity in much of the country, being more intense in mountainous areas.
