Zimbabwe Coach Michael Nees Praises Uyo Facilities Ahead of Super Eagles Clash
Zimbabwe head coach Michael Nees has expressed his admiration for the facilities in Uyo as his team prepares to face Nigeria in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Despite travel delays caused by a canceled flight, the Warriors settled in quickly and were pleased with their accommodation.
Nees described their hotel as “fine” and spacious, noting that it was previously used by the Nigerian national team before they moved to another location.
“The hotel is very spacious, we cannot complain. That was the former hotel of Nigeria, who have moved now to another hotel,” Nees told the Warriors media team.
Beyond their lodging, the Zimbabwe coach was particularly impressed with the training facilities.
After conducting their first session on Sunday, he praised the training pitch, describing it as soft and well-maintained.
“You can see for yourself, we would be happy to have something like this in our own country – really very good, impressed,” he remarked.
Nees also expects an even better playing surface at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, where the match will take place.
“The training pitch is soft, not too hard. The stadium pitch, I expect even better,” he added.
With Zimbabwe facing a tough challenge against a star-studded Super Eagles squad, Nees and his team are looking to maximize the top-tier facilities in Uyo as they seek a positive result in their World Cup qualification campaign.
