Osun politics witnessed a fresh twist on Thursday evening as Governor Ademola Adeleke paid a strategic visit to the Iwo residence of Alhaji Moshood Olalekan Adeoti, barely days after the influential politician announced his withdrawal from the Omoluabi Progressives.
Adeoti, an Iwo-born political powerhouse, former Secretary to the State Government, and one of the longest-standing pillars of the progressive bloc, formally exited the group on 30th November.
His move signalled a major shift away from the ADC axis led by former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, raising speculations about a possible realignment ahead of the next gubernatorial race.
Governor Adeleke arrived in Iwo with Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi and a high-powered delegation that included Chief of Staff Kazeem Akinleye, Secretary to the State Government Teslim Igbalaye, Information Commissioner Kolapo Alimi, and Political Affairs Commissioner Biyi Odunlade.
They were warmly received by the Adeoti Women Group, who filled the compound with songs, chants and excitement as both leaders exchanged pleasantries. Adeleke, in his characteristic style, joined them for a brief dance before heading into a closed-door meeting with Adeoti.
While no official briefing followed, the timing and weight of the visit speak volumes. Adeoti’s exit from the Omoluabi Progressives has left him politically unattached, a development analysts believe may have prompted Governor Ademola Adeleke’s swift outreach as he quietly builds alliances ahead of his second-term bid.
With Adeoti’s grassroots strength, especially in Osun West, this meeting could mark the beginning of a significant political realignment in the state.
