Katsina State Government Starts Campaign to Increase Childhood Immunization
The goal of the program, Male Involvement in Polio and Routine Immunization, is to encourage men to support children’s health.
Under the direction of Zulaihat Radda, the First Lady of Katsina, and with assistance from UNICEF, the initiative aims to reach more than 45% vaccination coverage by 2024.
It also focuses on eliminating the spread of poliovirus in the region.
The strategy tackles misunderstandings and cultural norms surrounding vaccines that have impeded advancement.
The initiative seeks to strengthen community health systems and remove obstacles faced by women by involving men and fathers in healthcare decisions.
In Katsina, this community-driven approach is viewed as a critical step toward universal healthcare, guaranteeing that children’s lives are no longer in danger from preventable diseases.
