DNVT Reports 65 Accidents and 10 Deaths Over the Weekend
To date, more than 5,600 traffic accidents have been reported in Honduras this year, leaving a tragic death toll of approximately 624.

The National Directorate of Roads and Transport ( DNVT ) reported that between Friday, May 2 and Sunday, May 4, at least 65 traffic accidents were recorded in different areas of the country, with a tragic death toll of 10 people.
The departments with the highest incidence were Cortés and Francisco Morazán , where the greatest number of traffic incidents were concentrated.
According to authorities, most of the fatalities were motorcycle riders, a frequently repeated pattern. Of every 10 reported accidents, at least 7 involved motorcyclists, many of whom were unlicensed.
In response to this situation, the DNVT has intensified enforcement operations on the country’s main roads, especially targeting motorcyclists who fail to comply with the required documentation. Vehicles modified in an unauthorized manner or operating with damaged lights are also being seized.
“We continue to urge drivers to drive responsibly and defensively when traveling on the main road,” spokespersons for the institution emphasized, reiterating the call for road awareness.

Driving without safety accessories is prohibited.
This Monday, Honduran President Xiomara Castro announced a ban on riding motorcycles without the safety equipment required by law, in response to the alarming increase in traffic accidents in the country.
“The number of serious motorcycle accidents has increased. The circulation of motorcycles that do not have the accessories and safety equipment required by law, which are essential to preventing accidents, is prohibited,” the Honduran president wrote on X.
