Brothers Fight Over Their Deceased Mother House in Choluteca
Siblings at odds over inheritance: dispute over a house puts their family relationship at risk. Here are the details.
Following the death of María de los Santos Chirinos, which occurred on December 4, 2024, three brothers have been plunged into a legal conflict that has divided the family and generated great tension in the Taiwan colony of Choluteca.
The dispute revolves around the property that belonged to their mother , a modest home that, despite being small, has been a home full of memories and sacrifices for the brothers.
Ramón José and Santos David Ordóñez Maldonado have accused their brother José Leonardo Pacas Chirinos of trying to take over the family home following the death of their mother.
According to the two brothers, José Leonardo allegedly removed the legal documents of the property without their consent, which unleashed a series of accusations against them.

“We always took care of my mother, we never left the house . We always looked after her health, her food, everything. A brother who has never spent a single day with us comes to tell us that the house is his,” said Ramón José
With a broken voice, he recounted how he and his brother Santos David were the ones who cared for their mother during the last years of her life, especially during her fight against Alzheimer’s.
The brother lives in another country
For his part, José Leonardo, who lives outside the country and has dual nationality, defends his position by stating that the property was always his, despite the fact that the legal documents were in his mother’s name.
According to Pacas, his mother had left him the house as an inheritance , making a legal transfer in 2023, with the signing of a sales contract before a notary.
“My mother told me that she would give me the house because she was already sick and she didn’t want there to be any problems after her death. Everything is in order,” said Pacas.
The origin of the conflict seems to lie in the lack of communication and in the circumstances of the inheritance.
The brothers who live in the house deny having been informed about the alleged purchase agreement and maintain that there is no legal evidence to support Pacas’ claim.
According to them, the house was not a gift, but a joint effort by the family, who over the years managed to get it up and running thanks to work in the market, without any outside help.
“The house was never for sale. We took care of it, improved it and put love into it. It’s not fair that someone comes to take it over,” said Santos David Ordoñez, who along with his brother Ramón José has requested the intervention of the authorities to prevent the eviction.
Agreement offering
In the midst of this dispute, José Leonardo not only asked his brothers to vacate the property, but has also threatened to take the case to court if they do not accept the offer of 25,000 lempiras that he is proposing as compensation.
“I will give them 25,000 lempiras, but they have to sign an agreement with a lawyer, because I am the legitimate owner of the house,” said Pacas, who also mentioned that the house would be put up for sale to settle the dispute.
Tensions are mounting as the siblings fail to reach an agreement. The Ordóñez Maldonado family have said that, although they do not have the documentation stating that the house legally belongs to them, they believe that the love and care with which they looked after their mother during her final years is worth more than any document.

For now, the brothers are caught in a legal tug-of-war that could lead to an eviction trial if not resolved soon.
“What we ask for is peace, that we can continue living here, that no one comes to destroy what my mother built with so much effort,” concluded Ramón José Ordóñez.
The case remains unresolved and will be brought before a judge to decide the legality of the actions of each party involved.
