Police have not confirmed his release on bail.
Malaysian rapper Namewee, or Wee Meng Chee, is set to be released on police bail following initial investigations into the death of Taiwanese social media influencer Iris Hsieh.
According to New Straits Times, Attorney-General Ahmad Dusuki Mokhtar said there is currently no evidence linking him to her death.
Offered police bail
To date, authorities have yet to find any lead to show that Namewee was involved in causing Hsieh’s death, Dusuki said as quoted by NST.
As such, he has been offered police bail.
However, investigations are still ongoing while further instructions have been issued to the police.
Police have not confirmed his release on bail.
City police chief Fadil Marsus said investigation papers on the murder probe involving the rapper had been submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s office on Nov. 12, and police were awaiting further directives, reported The Star.
Extended remand to end on Nov. 13
Namewee’s three-day extended remand is set to end on Nov. 13 following the expiry of his initial remand period.
The rapper had surrendered himself at the Dang Wangi police headquarters at about 2am on Nov. 5.
He was then issued a remand order until Nov. 10 to assist in investigations.
Hsieh was found dead in a bathtub in a hotel room on Jalan Conlay on Oct. 22, and her body was later sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The rapper was reportedly in the same hotel room at the time of the incident.
The case, initially classified as a sudden death, was later reclassified as murder on Nov. 4.
