Local sources in Abia State say a group of youths has apprehended more than 30 suspected armed militants in a forested area of the state. The individuals were reportedly found with assault rifles, explosives, and other materials believed to be components for improvised devices.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the suspects attempted to flee when the youths mobilized. Despite being unarmed, the youths were said to have overpowered the group and confiscated their weapons before alerting community leaders and security agencies.
One youth, speaking to journalists, said, “We don’t need guns to defend our land. Our unity is our strength.”
Another added, “Anyone who enters our forests to cause harm will face resistance. We are determined to protect our communities.”
Security authorities have not yet issued an official statement, and details surrounding the incident are still emerging.
