Three days after Ancelotti was announced as coach, the president of the Brazilian Confederation was dismissed from his post.
Due to administrative irregularities, the Brazilian courts dismissed Ednaldo Rodrigues from the CBF. The details
The Brazilian court has removed Ednaldo Rodrigues from his position as president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) due to administrative irregularities. Judge Gabriel de Oliveira Zéfiro of the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice made this decision following a technical report that questioned the authenticity of a signature on a key document.
Fernando Sarney, vice president of the CBF, has been appointed as an administrator , and elections have been ordered to form a new board of directors. This measure comes just three days after Carlo Ancelotti was announced as Brazil’s national team coach.

This is the second time that the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice has removed Ednaldo Rodrigues, who served as president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). This decision, made by Judge Gabriel de Oliveira Zéfiro, comes in the midst of the CONMEBOL Congress taking place in Paraguay , where FIFA President Gianni Infantino is also present.
The measure was motivated in part by allegations that the signature of former CBF President Colonel Nunes was forged on an agreement signed earlier this year. This irregularity was pointed out by Representative Daniela do Waguinho and one of the CBF vice presidents, Fernando Sarney. As a result, Sarney was appointed as an auditor while new elections are held.
” Based on the above, I order: 1- the dismissal of the current board of directors of the CBF; 2- that the Vice President of the CBF, Fernando José Sarney , call the election of the board of directors of the CBF, as intervener, as soon as possible, complying with the legal deadlines, and that he be responsible, until the elected board of directors takes office , for the powers inherent to the administration of the institution, as established in article 7 of the Entity’s Statute,” reads the court’s document.
This dismissal is also linked to the hasty announcement of Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment as Canarinha coach , a situation that would have been complicated if Rodrigues had remained in his position. In 2023, Rodrigues had been dismissed by the same court, but was subsequently reinstated by decision of STF minister Gilmar Mendes. The CBF, for its part, attributes the premature announcement about Ancelotti to a leak.
“Last week, two requests were made to the Supreme Court of Justice (STF) to remove Ednaldo from office. Representative Daniela do Waguinho (União Brasil-RJ) and one of the current vice presidents of the CBF, Fernando Sarney, argue that the signature of Colonel Nunes, the entity’s former president, was forged in an agreement from earlier this year. There is also an expert report indicating that the signature is not authentic,” explained the Brazilian media outlet Globo Esporte .
” I feel calm; those who do the right thing have nothing to fear. It’s about respecting positions and trusting in justice,” said Ednaldo Rodrigues from the CONMEBOL Congress in Asunción.
