Little Deybi Dies After Being Attacked By His Stepfather in Cofradía
The five-year-old boy died after several days in critical condition; his stepfather, who was accused of being the aggressor, is in custody and will face legal proceedings.

On Monday evening, the death of little Deybi Dariel Cortés Salgado , just five years old, was confirmed. He lost his life after suffering a violent attack at the hands of his stepfather.
The minor had been admitted to the Mario Catarino Rivas Hospital in San Pedro Sula, Cortés , on March 8, in critical condition, diagnosed with brain death.
Despite medical efforts, the child was unable to recover and died after several days in the Intensive Care Unit .
The tragic event occurred in the Cofradía sector and according to authorities, the child was brutally beaten by his stepfather, identified as Franklin Eduardo Vega Fernández , who also attacked his other stepson, Anthony Xavier Cortés Salgado, who is currently stable.

The children’s mother reported that Vega Fernández arrived at the family home, located in the El Centro neighborhood of Cofradía , and violently attacked the children before fleeing the scene.
It was thanks to the mother’s prompt complaint that the authorities were able to locate the aggressor, who was captured on March 6 in the municipality of Petoa, department of Santa Bárbara.

According to reports from the Public Prosecutor’s Office , the detainee had already been involved in violent episodes previously, and the children’s mother had filed previous complaints against him.
Following his arrest, authorities reported that a fiscal request will be filed against Vega Fernández in the coming hours.
The case sparked outrage and calls for attention to the importance of protecting the integrity of minors in risky situations. Organizations defending children’s rights are demanding that justice be done for the death of little Deybi and that measures be strengthened to prevent child violence in the country.
