Last Tuesday, December 31, a Ukrainian drone attack caused a leak and fire at a Russian oil depot.
The depot is located in the Smolensk administrative region in western Russia. Local governor Vasily Anokhin said on Telegram: “Today, the Russian Defense Ministry’s air defense systems repelled a Ukrainian drone attack in the Yartsevo district,” about 300 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. “According to preliminary information, the wreckage of one of the drones fell into the compound of an oil depot, resulting in a fuel leak and fire,” he said, adding that rescue services were currently assessing the situation. The governor made no comment on possible casualties.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry’s daily report, 68 Ukrainian drones were shot down by air defense during the attack, including 10 in the Smolensk oblast.
